So You Want To Be A Host Family…

Welcome to my world!  A few months ago – it seems sometimes like years – I decided to host international students coming to Denver to study either at a university or an English school.  A friend knew I was looking and saw an ad on Craigslist for a school on the other side of town.  I took the plunge and made the phone call, and the rest, as they say, is history.  I have since hosted three different students, and it has been a learning experience for all of us.

Hosting an international student is not for the faint of heart or the inflexible lifestyle.  Not that your whole world changes, but it does go through some major shifts if you are used to status quo!  It also is fun, frustrating, stretching, exciting, and most of all, fulfilling.  I am enjoying meeting different people in a new way, learning more about others’ cultures and my own.  Trying to explain certain phrases that Americans use is comical, and hearing students use them for the first time without understanding the meaning is entertainment in and of itself!

Join me as I journal about my adventures, mishaps, true life stories and craziness.  And if you are in the metro Denver area, maybe we can connect at some point to share stories!
